Christmas Fund Raising at the Norwich Castle Mall.

Being the Norwich Castle Mallís charity of the year for 2014 we were asked to provide volunteers to run the Christmas gift wrapping service for the Mallís customers. The wrapping paper, tape, ribbon & bows were all donated, all we had to do was wrap the presents for a minimum contribution of £1 per gift. We started on Saturday 13th December and continued on until Christmas Eve. Some of the time was very demanding where we had people queuing and some people had more than one gift.

One gentleman had 48 presents which took 2 of our volunteers over two hours to wrap but he was very generous with his contribution. The gifts we wrapped ranged from three foot wooden giraffes, wooden hedgehogs, perfumes, lingerie to Secret Santa gifts!

We were lucky enough to have some free publicity through Mustard TV.
Our volunteers were East Coast Truckers members, parents or friends of children on our database, Castle Mall staff and regular Castle Mall volunteers. All our helpers gave their time freely for which the charity is very appreciative. Everyone that volunteered agrees that they found the experience great fun and that they meet some amazing people.

The marvellous outcome of all the hard work is that a massive amount of £2770.95 has been raised. In addition to this amount a further percentage of the ticket price from the Castle Mall Santa's Grotto raised over £1100.

Becca Elmy, marketing manager at Castle Mall shopping centre would like to thank Norwich shoppers for helping them to raise almost £4000 for the East Coast Truckers Charity over the 2014 Christmas period.

The Charity is overwhelmed by the generosity of the Castle Mall shoppers and thanks everyone who helped or contributed in raising this incredible amount.

Great Yarmouth Hippodrome Circus - Christmas Spectacular.

On 11th January 2015 the East Coast Truckers took a party of 265 adults and
children to the Great Yarmouth Hippodrome Circus. They joined the other
spectators and were entertained by a fast moving dynamic show with over 50
performers in the unique 111 year old atmosphere of the legendary Hippodrome.
The show lived up to expectation with the amazing Globe Bikers, flying acrobatics
and swimmers, dancers from Dance Estelle and students from the Chermond
Gymnastics School in Norwich.

There were moments of hilarious comedy from Jack Jay and Pip Randall. At one
stage our vice chairman Nigel Folkard made an unexpected appearance and joined
in a comic routine followed by cheers from the audience.

New members Yvette & Stu Witham summed up their day by saying:

ĎAs members Stu and I helped out the day of the circus, where we meet lovely
children who enjoyed the event and gave us such pleasure seeing them with smiles
on their faces.

One young child sitting nearby laughed all the way through with delight. This to us
is what the charity means to usí

Sharon Thorndyke - Child Liaison Officer added:

A big thank you to all the members who turned up and helped to make the circus
trip a success today I think the kids faces said it all! Another brilliant show at the
Hippodrome Circus, Great Yarmouth.

Some of the many parentís comments:

performers and a special thank you to Christine & Peter Jay for all of their
Annual Childrenís Christmas Party.

This yearís East Coast Truckers Childrenís Christmas Party was at held at the Hewett School, Hall Road, Norwich on December 13th 2014 with 110 children attending.

There was an absolutely fantastic Santaís Grotto created by Nicola Taylor of Dream a Prop Workshop who answered our request for support from our businesses linked in with Charity.org. We also had a donation of 100 Christmas crackers from the Best Western Brook Hotel at Bowthorpe.

Children enjoyed food provided by Betty Tortice and her team and the adults were also provided with refreshments provided by the ladies of the East Coast Truckers Charity and some parents who kindly came along and assisted.

Entertainment was provided by Dazza G and Ray Humphreys and their road show, with members joining in with the fun.

There was a very special moment when Santa arrived in Jim Bennettís American Truck when one little girl, attending her first ECTC event, ran to have a cuddle as he got out of the truck saying "I love you Santa".

The Sheriff of Norwich William Armstrong, the Lord Mayor of Norwich Judith Lubbock and the Mayor of Great Yarmouth Marlene Fairhead were in attendance.  They all sat with families and were very impressed to hear from them firsthand what the charity has done for their children.

There was a great deal of work done before the event with ECTC members Maureen Madden and Barbara Land assisting the Child Liaison Team and the President, Sheila Sarsby in preparing for the event.

Our thanks also go to Kerrison Toys, Aysham Road, Norwich and Boots in Castle Mall, for their support for this yearís event.

These events cannot be put on without the support of the members and it was great to see so many turn up dressed up in Christmas outfits and helping with setting up and clearing up afterwards.

Following a year of fund raising with the Castle Mall Norwich, a few members went along to collect the cheque from the Castle Mall Management.

Many thanks to Trevor Howlett for bringing his unit. Over the year funds raised were a brilliant total of £6,000
The 2014/15 members awards have been presented to the following members.

Club member of the year was awarded to Dee Wright-King. Outstanding contribution to ECTC
was presented to Geoff and Gloria Brendling.

A very special award went to young Toby Hamling for his outstanding contribution to ECTC. For his very young age Toby is a very good ambassador for the charity. He is often at the fore front of any charity event handing out flyers and talking to children and their parents about the charity. This was a very proud moment for his parents, Becky and Marcus Hamling. Well done Toby.

The Presidentís award went to Sharon & Derek Thorndyke for their dedication and hard work.
